My kids have discovered a new obsession: mini golf. Even though they’re only 2 and 4 years old, ages when “technique” and “rules” are nonexistent, they understand the point and have a blast trying. If your kids are anything like mine, don’t expect to play much yourself or keep score. Do expect lots of following them around, retrieving rogue balls and repeating, “nice try!” (But I have to say, there’s almost nothing cuter or funnier than a toddler with a teeny little plastic club.) Here are some options on Oahu for family golfing fun.
Bay View Mini-Putt and Zipline
This place is huge, and my personal favorite. The beautiful views of the Koolaus do it for me, and my kids love exploring the courses. You can choose the easier Pali course or the more challenging Likelike course, 18 or 36 holes. The few times we’ve been it wasn’t too crowded.
Bay View Mini Putt and Zipline. 45-285 Kaneohe Bay Drive, Kaneohe. For 18 holes: kamaaina adults $10, kids $5 (3-6 years), $8 (7-12 years), 2 and under free. 247-6464. www.bayviewminiputt.com.
Jungle River Mini Golf
This one has been here forever and, unfortunately, it shows. Although it could use a facelift, my kids still had plenty of fun. I liked that it was nice and shady so we weren’t too hot, but I’ve heard it does get soggy in the rain. My kids were disappointed that all of the keiki rides were out of order, but the shave ice redeemed that.
Jungle River Mini Golf. 98-1101 Moanalua Road, Aiea. All ages $8, 3 and up, under 2 years free, $8.50 for Cosmic Golf. 488-8808. www.jungleriverminigolf.com.
Glow Putt Mini Golf
My kids beg me to go here every time we’re at Windward Mall. It’s a perfect rainy day option. The staff is always really friendly and usually don’t charge for my 2-year-old. My kids love the glow bracelets they get at the beginning, and the little lights they get to take home at the end.
